Angela Caputi Giuggiù
Unique creations in taste, style and design, born from the passion for fashion and the willingness to communicate with women.
This is the costume jewellery created by Angela Caputi, a Florentine designer, whose brand Giuggiù has conquered the world of high fashion and museums across the world, from the Metropolitan Museum in New York to the Galleria del Costume in Florence.
A woman lies where art and fashion meet. And that is where the unique Giuggiù jewellery takes shape.
ANGELA CAPUTI GIUGGIÙ, HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA OF MAKING JEWELLERY WITH UNUSUAL MATERIALS?
«Italy lacked the concept of a modern accessory that would be fashionable and playful. The American films showed that it was possible and I decided to try, starting with murrine. Then I looked
for more ductile materials, which would allow varying shapes and colours. In 1975, at my first craft show, Americans and Japanese immediately fell in love with my jewellery, while it was much
harder with Italians».
HOW MUCH HAS THE FLORENTINE ARTISAN TRADITION INFLUENCED YOU?
«A great deal. I combined the passion for Apulian philosophy, my father’s land, with the irony and the intelligence of the Florentines. Being artisans means staying away from a purely commercial logic, communicating with clients and explaining the product».
IS THERE SOMETHING PARTICULAR ABOUT THE NEW COLLECTIONS?
«I found a very beautiful material that allows me to play with the colour red and transparencies. We will launch it at Christmas. Then in January, I have a line in camouflage that I will also present at Pitti».
